Multi-specialty referral
Fourteen clinical departments, with surgical theatres, intensive care, imaging and in-house pathology under one roof.
Specialty Vet Hospitals is the parent brand for the group’s referral hospitals. Top Dog, Mumbai is one of them.
Referral hospital medicine for cases that a single practice cannot hold alone. Theatres, intensive care beds, ultrasound, endoscopy and in-house pathology sit in the same building, with the specialist bench on site. Dr. Makarand Chousalkar founded Top Dog, Mumbai and is the group’s Chief Medical Officer.
Every clinician in this business is salaried. Nobody is paid on production, so there is no financial reason to over-treat. On any question of patient safety, the clinical view is the deciding one.

Ophthalmology
Specialist eye care for companion animals.
A Specialty Council chair is clinically accountable for every case in their discipline, at every site.
Cataract and phacoemulsification surgery, cornea, glaucoma and referral diagnostics. The business was co-founded by Dr. Kasturi Bhadsavle, DIBVO, who leads it and chairs the group’s Ophthalmology Specialty Council. It was the first business in the group.
Clinicians are salaried. Referral cases return to the practice that sent them.

Oncology
Medical oncology for pets, with chemotherapy day care.
Patient safety, then quality, then finance. In that order, in every tie-break.
Diagnosis, staging and treatment planning, with chemotherapy delivered in day care. The business was co-founded by Dr. Noopur Desai, the only US board-certified veterinary radiation oncologist practising in India, who leads it and chairs the group’s Oncology Specialty Council.
Clinicians are salaried. Treatment plans are set on clinical grounds and nothing else.
Scope
Clinical leadership
Oncology
Co-founder of The Cancer Vet. The only US board-certified veterinary radiation oncologist practising in India. Chair of the Oncology Specialty Council.
Exotic companion animals
Birds, small mammals and reptiles, seen by clinicians who specialise in them.
Clinicians are salaried, never paid on production.
Exotic companion animal medicine needs species-specific handling, anaesthesia and dosing. The business was co-founded by Dr. Shiwani Tandel, who leads it and chairs the group’s Exotics Specialty Council. The clinic is in Pune.
Clinicians are salaried. Cases outside the species range are referred on rather than kept.
Scope
Clinical leadership
Exotics and wildlife
Co-founder of The Exotics Vet. Chair of the Exotics Specialty Council.
Dermatology
Specialist skin, ear and allergy medicine for companion animals.
Medical protocols and pathways are set by clinicians. Medical Director appointments are made by peer selection.
Skin, ear and allergy disease is one of the most common reasons a companion animal is seen again and again, and one of the least often resolved. The business takes dermatology referrals that primary care has not settled, and works them up to a diagnosis rather than to a repeat prescription.
Clinicians are salaried. The medical standard is set by the group’s Dermatology Specialty Council.
Scope
Medical standard
Set by the group’s Dermatology Specialty Council.
The academy
The International Institute of Veterinary Specialization — the group’s academy, wholly owned, running fourteen disciplines.
IIVS is wholly owned by the group. Faculty come from the group’s own bench.
The ladder runs PG certificate, fellowship, rotating internship, residency, specialist. Teaching is delivered digitally, with clinical rotations through the network.

Specialist
Primary care
Neighbourhood primary care, with the specialist bench behind it.
Clinicians are salaried, never paid on production.
Primary care is where most animals are seen and where most relationships with a household are held. A practice inside the group keeps its name, its team and its founder’s clinical control.
Cases that need specialty or hospital depth move inside the network and come back to the practice that referred them. No referral commission is paid or taken, in either direction.
Scope
Emergency and critical care
Triage, intensive care and surgical stabilisation.
Clinicians are salaried, never paid on production.
Emergency medicine is judged on the first hour. Triage, stabilisation, intensive care and imaging, with the specialty bench reachable from the floor rather than in the morning.
Co-founded by Dr. Hamsini Yagneshwar. Clinicians are salaried.
Scope
Clinical leadership
Emergency and critical care
Co-founder of The Emergency Vet.
Behavioural medicine
Behavioural medicine for aggression, anxiety, noise phobia and separation disorders.
Clinicians are salaried, never paid on production.
Behavioural disorders end more relationships between an animal and its household than any surgical disease. They are treated as medicine here, not as training.
Consultation is delivered online, with in-person intensives through the clinical network. Co-founded by Dr. Daniela Zurr.
Scope
Clinical leadership
Behavioural medicine
Co-founder of The Behaviour Vet.
Nursing
Recruits, trains and deploys veterinary nurses and technicians.
Clinicians are salaried, never paid on production.
Nurses and technicians are the largest group of people in the company and the least well served by the profession’s training. The business recruits, trains and deploys them as managed clinical staff across the network.
It gives a nurse a career ladder that no single practice can build alone, and gives a practice a standard of nursing it could not recruit for on its own.
Scope
Radiology
Specialist interpretation of radiographs, ultrasound, CT and MRI.
Clinicians are salaried, never paid on production.
Imaging is only as good as the person reading it. Board-certified and residency-trained radiologists report for clinics inside the group and for practices outside it.
A small practice reaches the same standard of interpretation as a referral hospital, without owning the bench.
Scope
Pathology
Histopathology, cytology and clinical pathology, reported to one standard.
Clinicians are salaried, never paid on production.
A diagnosis is only as good as the report behind it. The business provides specialist pathology for clinics inside the group and for practices outside it, so a sample is read by someone who reads that tissue every week.
Samples are reported to one standard, whichever clinic sent them. The medical standard is set by the group’s Pathology Specialty Council.
Scope
End of life care
Quality of life assessment, palliative and hospice care.
Clinicians are salaried, never paid on production.
End of life is the part of the work most often left to a rushed consultation at the end of a list. It is treated here as a discipline with its own standard.
Quality of life assessment, in-home palliative and hospice care, aftercare and support for the household.
Scope
Clinical standards
Clinical leadership, salaried practice and no referral commissions.
